Abstract

The book includes a brief foreword by the author and three autofictional lectures: The Flowers of Evil or the Celebration of Violence, Memento Mori or the Celebration of Death, and Divine Invention or the Celebration of Love. The work (featuring a cover photo by Matilde Campodónico) brings together texts performed by Blanco in various countries and at different times, pieces that explore and poetically frame the themes that form the backbone of the playwright’s work—to say the least—or of art itself—to say what’s true.

Author Biography

María Esther Burgueño, Comisión Coordinadora del Interior, Universidad de la República. Montevideo, Uruguay.

Professor of Literature and Spanish Language, graduated from the Institute of Higher Studies. Master's degree in theater from the University of the Republic (UdelaR). Teacher at the Artigas Teachers' Institute (IPA), D. A. Larrañaga Catholic University, ORT University. Theater researcher for UdelaR. Member of the Association of Theater Critics of Uruguay. Founding member of the International Association of Theater Critics (AINCRIT). Teacher of Literature and Theater History at El Galpón, IAM, La Gaviota, Teatro Circular, Alambique. Teacher of Theater Text Structure in the Dramaturgy Technician Program at UdelaR. Journalist in print, radio, and television in the field of theater. Her critical works, including the original prologues to several plays by Sergio Blanco (Kiev, .45’, Barbarie, Tebas Land) and other playwrights such as Gabriel Calderón and Santiago Sanguinetti, have been published in various media outlets in the Americas and Europe. She is co-director of the Escuela de Espectadores (School of Spectators), Uruguay branch.
