ReviewAbstract
Returning from exile in England, actor, director, and playwright Juan Vera (1945-2002) founded the theater company El Riel in 1981 under the auspices of the Santiago Watt railway union, premiering the play “La 504,” named after a model of a railroad car. The play deals with the lives of three railway workers and a rural teacher and denounces the forced disappearance by agents of the dictatorship, from the perspective of the proletariat and with a focus on class and gender emancipation. It was staged in popular venues at the height of the dictatorship. In this way, Juan Vera began a project that would transcend his death, with uninterrupted theatrical work that has now spanned 44 years.
